Overview

New Zealand Fashion Week returns again. Our first fashion week back in 2001 saw the beginning of a fashion renaissance. There were only 30 contributing designers, and amongst the most sought after were shows by the likes of Nicholas Blanchet and Insiduous Fix. Both designers no longer exist. Insiduous Fix failed as a result of a drug charge, Nicholas Blanchet potentially due to an obsession with creating woollen pants. Yet despite those few failed labels, we still have our fair share of fashion veterans by way of Cybele, Deborah Sweeney and Adrian Hailwood who remain prominent on New Zealand’s fashion scene.

Starting on the Monday, the first three days of Fashion Week will feature shows by New Zealand’s leading designers who will showcase their upcoming collections to the media, as well as buyers, special guests and industry spectators. The designer selections will show on Wednesday and Thursday nights in the lead up to the Fashion Weekend, in which the even to pens to New Zealand’s fashion-forward public.

Last year saw international fashion stars, including ASOS, My-Wardrobe and Electric Sikki make the trip over to New Zealand shores, and this year NZFW has promised more international labels, as well as our known and loved locals. The marquee showroom will house up to 240 guests, and the runway area can cater up to 800 onlookers. With more designers than ever before, and a wicked Fashion Weekend as its grand finale, NZFW is back.
