If you're up for a boogie on the weekend or a quiet one during the week, the Ginger’s kitsch approach to just about everything will show you a good time almost any night of the week. 

Tucked away in the heart of Dominion Road, for any non-local the neighbourhood may seem a bit off the beaten track but the 'burbs are happening all the same. Attracting a rather alternative clientele, one “not in the scene” may feel ill at ease, however ,the joint is so dark so you won't feel too intimidated by the cool crowd hanging in the shadows.

The ornate furnishings of this dark retreat include several chandeliers, couches and corners, leaving you with plenty to discover; you'll be constantly distracted by the intricate detail of the décor. The real log fire heats up the place quickly and provides a homely feel with the sound of the crackling something of a treat - just don’t sit too close. I am drawn in by the bits and pieces all over the place in particular the details behind the bar that give the place an eclectic but artsy edge.

Perfect during the week for an informal bevy, there are always spare corners to hide in and while the music can be loud, the late late final call and the bar fries to die for make up for the DJ's over-excitement on the volume. Taking things up a notch in the weekend, the Ginger Minx becomes Mt Eden's party central. With an epic line-up of DJs and dedicated funk, soul and hip hop nights there is always a groovy tune being spun and you never know what the tables will be playing next which is part of the eclectic intrigue of the Minx.
