Overview

One of the definite advantages of living in such a culturally diverse nation, is the amount of New Year celebrations we get to participate in. Matariki marks the Maori new year, and this July is full of Matariki festivities to commemorate the event. Rounding off the action packed month is the Matariki on the Waterfront festival, which intends to entertain Aucklanders all weekend long.

On Saturday and Sunday, Silo Park will become an outdoor marketplace filled with over 50 stalls. Artwork, jewellery and clothing, all with a Maori influence will be on offer around the markets, providing a backdrop to the expanse of cultural activities that will be going on during the event.

As well as knick knacks and arts and crafts, there will be an impressive range of street vendors offering some of the country's most loved street food. Jamaican Me Hungry, The Beverage Boy and The Food Truck will all be on the scene, ensuring everyone stays fed and watered (wined/beered?) whilst they shop the marketplace.
