Overview

If you have ever wondered what would happen if a narcissistic man with absolutely no taste or creativity mysteriously gained access to six million dollars and decided to become a filmmaker, you should watch The Room.

Directed by, produced by and starring Tommy Wiseau, the 2003 indie melodrama has been called "the worst film ever" by pretty much every self-respecting film critic in the world. And so naturally it's become an international cult hit. The film is known for its inconsistency in plot, misogyny, repetitive dialogue, and the recurrent and unnecessary spoon motif throughout. Oh, and the original version of the film intended to have a plot twist where Tommy Wiseau's character Johnny is actually a vampire. The film's not as bad as you think, it's worse.

But the real joy of watching The Room isn't in hearing Johnny mutter "that's the idea" or "oh hi" over a million times, but in its audience participation - in throwing plastic spoons at the screen every time a spoon appears in the film, in yelling "because you're a women" after anything a female character does, and "who the fuck are you?" when actors mysteriously get swapped out in the middle of the film. It's fun, trust me.

Take a bag of plastic spoons with you and read this viewer's guide before watching the worst film imaginable. The Room screens on the first Friday of every month.
