Overview

Sarah Laing is a bit of a legend. She has a popular blog, Let Me Be Frank, where she shares her daily escapades, gems of wit and wisdom, and her signature comics. The digital ephemera is regularly materialised in the form of a zine, which beares the same name. Laing's comics are warm, engaging, humorous and clever.  Her illustrations, usually rendered in watercolour, are energetic, punchy and bright. If that wasn't enough, she is also author of two critically acclaimed novels and a book of short stories. And the mother of three children. Phew.

I think the myriad of adjectives in the previous paragraphs made it clear—this is one talented woman. Luckily, she is happy to share her talents with the rest of us. Sarah Laing will be running a Zine and Comics workshop at the freshly rebranded and refurbished Studio One Toi Tu in Ponsonby. The one day workshop (10am to 2pm) will encourage you to tell your personal story, armed with scissors, glue and ink. You'll walk away with a zine of your own making, and hopefully a whole lot of inspiration for future creations. It's a mighty worthy way to spend a Saturday. Visit Studio One's website and flick them an email to reserve a place.
