Concrete Playground

This market is a haven of fresh produce for city dwellers. They can saunter out of their high rise apartments down to the Britomart precinct and find fresh fruit and vege stalls in amongst the concrete jungle.

I thought I knew what a good falafel sandwich was until I came to this central Auckland market. The Chilli Factor sells mouth-watering Israeli hummus with or without chilli and the crispiest most flavoursome falafel I’ve ever come across.

For a sweet treat there are Belgian waffles and an Italian dessert stall selling all the classics. The lettuce and herbs stall sells lettuce in a bucket which you can keep outside, plucking a few leaves from the plant just when you need them.

The slight hassle for suburban types is the absence of designated market parking. Oh well, it’s worth taking the train or fighting it out with the Saturday shoppers for a park on the nearby streets.

Open from 8:30am every Saturday morning till midday.
