Dominion Road: Stories of the Shifting Urbanscape

When: Tuesday, 7 August - Saturday, 25 August
Where: Art Station, 1 Ponsonby Road, Auckland
    How much: FREE

Dominion Road's rich multiculturalism is celebrated in this photographic exhibition by AUT senoir lecturer King Tong Ho. The project, which he began in 2011, takes an insiders look into Dominion Road by photographing the interiors of businesses and presenting them alongside transcripts of the stories of business owners.

As a migrant, through this project King Tong Ho, previously a professional photographer in Hong Kong, found a way to connect with the Auckland community. “Capturing memories of their daily life directed me to find the cultural root of my second home. Thus, my photographs are another form of cultural inheritance. To the Chinese, inheritance has the commitment to carry on to the future,” he says.

Join him and guest artists who live and work on Dominion Road as they discuss the significance of this road in their art on Saturday 11 August, 1-2pm. The guest artists are; ceramic artist Peter Lange, mural artist Simon Stockley and John Schroeder from the Digital Darkroom.
