If you saw the TV programme, you probably know what The Food Truck craze is all about. The series consisted of well-known chef, Michael Van de Elzen using his 25 years of experience in the kitchen to create healthier versions of our nation’s favourite takeaways, mainly from the back of his truck. It aired its first season in 2011 and returned in 2012 for another.

From this, Food Truck Garage was born. The famous 1970's Bedford truck has recently parked up permanently at Shed One in the City Works Depot next to its brand new, bright and welcoming dining establishment, consequently allowing health-conscious foodies around Auckland to get their fast food fix in an affordable manner, whenever they’d like.

As soon as you walk in, you’re welcomed by the sociable staff. Due to its rapidly growing popularity, you may not be able to be seated straight away, but they’ll ensure you’re looked after with a drink until a slab becomes available as the indoor-outdoor flow presents an array of seating arrangements catering for everyone’s needs. Local beer from Hallertau is supplied on tap but if it’s too early for a brew, you have the perfect excuse to try one of Michael’s naturally sweet homemade soft drinks.

The menu is a work-in-progress, but it still has plenty to choose from. There’s no deep-fryer in sight and everything is made fresh and as healthy as possible. You may even spot the celebrity chef himself in the kitchen. If you have a huge appetite, you can’t go past his famous burgers that are grilled with fresh vegetables inside the pattie, otherwise there are plenty of smaller items equally as tasty.

Overall, your Food Truck Garage experience is going to one you’ve never come across before. You can literally taste the goodness without having to feel guilty.
