Little King Cafe - CLOSED

Milford is fervently enamoured with this little gem, and rightfully so.

Overview

Running terribly late on a Saturday – as anyone is after a big Friday night (refer to CP's article for Best Hangover breakfasts) – I hustled to Little King café in Milford to meet my even-later dining partner. Whilst considerably flustered and slightly out of breath, I managed to find myself a seat amongst the throngs of weekend foodies and let the pleasant café hum settle around me. And boy, does this place hum. Though I’m not entirely sure who held the tastebud throne of the North Shore before, Little King appears to now have a total monopoly on the burbs’, shouldering the great NZ brunch addiction and administering caffeine addictions by the plenty.

Not immune to Little King’s seductive waffle menu, my friend ordered the chicken waffle sandwich; filled with grilled chicken breast, brie, avocado, cranberry jam and house made tomato chutney, and I tried the best eggs benedict I have ever had.

Seriously.

The muffins were toasted to the sort of perfection some cafes can only dream about; the eggs broke like yolky lava; the hollandaise was subtle and creamy, and this was all accompanied by fresh spinach, avocado, mushrooms and roasted tomato. The only thing that consumed my mind while I ate was when I would be able to come back and have it all over again.

My dining partner also reported great contentment with her savoury waffle adventure, though noted the chicken was a tad dry.

Our meal was finished off with beautiful coffee and some delicious treats from the overflowing cabinet – notable mentions go to the chocolate brownie and mochachino macarons, both of which I scoffed shamelessly in the privacy of my home.

This is the kind of stylish weekend eatery Milford has been begging the café gods for for years, and the locals seem to have welcomed Little King to their neighbourhood with open arms.

My advice? Stop what you’re doing and go there, now.
