Overview

If you haven't heard of Rutland Street Espresso Bar yet, we wouldn't be surprised. Although the espresso bar and cafe has been in town since the end of 2011, it's been kept quiet on the radar, the owners preferring people to find it through word of mouth than any fancy advertising.

The cafe itself is a gem. Tucked away in a super quiet corner in central town (how is that even possible?), Rutland has a relaxed type of vibe to make any lunch break feel like a world away.

Besides its more relaxed location, the cafe also has a tight-knit feel, helped on by its smallish floor space, friendly staff, and their close communal way of doing things - the food's prepared fresh on a daily basis on site by the chef, who also helps serve the food and provide some of the banter.

Food-wise your options aren't too diverse, but delicious and highly wallet-friendly nonetheless. I picked up a small Moroccan chickpea and couscous salad for $5 while my friend had a chickpea roll for $6. Both tasted good and filled us up nicely. The real highlight of this little nook however, is its coffee. Their cappuccino's a dream, probably one of the best cappuccinos I've had in town. We also tried their new hot chocolate which features a melting stick of real chocolate (also very tasty).

Rutland's a cafe for those who like a good coffee, a cheap meal and bit of peace and quiet in the middle of town.
