Salt

The kind of place where you can eat five star food, in your jandals.

Overview

Salt is a cute little restaurant in Castor Bay. Not your typical beach-side diner, they serve top class food, with a simple and unpretentious vibe. Its only a two minute stroll to Castor Bay beach so it makes for an awesome spot to begin or wind down a day at the beach.

The Moa Pale Ale caught my eye on the drinks menu but they were all out, a Heineken would have to suffice. The wine list was really long, with New Zealand options taking priority. At $36 the Pan Roast Angus Beef Fillet was pricey, but oh-so-good. Cooked to medium rare perfection and accompanied by wild mushrooms, and some of the most velvety mashed potato you are likely to find either side of the bridge.

Its a classy spot for Friday drinks if you live in the area, and they have ever changing options on the tapas menu. They are open for brunch and lunch over the weekend, at prices that will not worry the accountant/girlfriend as much as dinner.

The service staff were super friendly, but with mains starting at $32 they probably should hire someone a little more knowledgeable about dining etiquette than the 7th form kid who lives up the road. A really great spot for top class food in a relaxed atmosphere, but not the place for those expecting silver service.
