Overview

Situated on the newly refurbished Elliott Street in the city, Waffle Supreme is the latest delectable food store to join the ‘pop up restaurant’ movement. Based in a tiny renovated shipping container, and painted a slick bright red it’s hard to miss this wee gem.

The decadent treats on offer blow the stereotypical view of the humble waffle right out of the water. Gone are the stodgy Americanised versions we’ve come to know, and with the addition of Belgian pearl sugar we welcome a crispy, light and almost caramelised treat.

The menu is short, but certainly not lacking in flavour. Choose from a basic waffle with dark rich chocolate sauce, mascarpone, honey or maple syrup.  But if you’re really wanting to up the anti you could try the Ginger Kiss; speculaas spice biscuit spread, cream cheese and golden syrup, or the Communion; mascarpone, orange blossom, honey and spiced red wine syrup.

It’s certainly a one-stop shop to satisfy those sweet tooth cravings. But if you’re looking to dine in you may be disappointed, with just a couple of bar stools on offer. So be prepared to take away your sugar fix.

Well-priced, and for those leading a pedestrian existence, a nice way to diverge away from the hustle and bustle of Auckland’s central city.
